Job Summary
A great opportunity is available within the Absa Regional Operations (ARO) Treasury team. The ARO Treasury team works closely with in-country Treasury teams in the management of local capital, funding & liquidity and interest rate risk positions. The ARO team also provides country teams with risk analysis and risk magement systems implementation support

Job Description
Special requirements
The role requires the candidate to provide expert advice to country teams and be able to challenge & review their plans and express an opinion. The candidate therefore needs to be technically competent in all Treasury areas but specifically in capital, liquidity and ALM.

Financial modelling and risk analytics
  • Analyse funding and liquidity plans. Express an opinion on whether liquidity buffers and funding resources are adequate. Review contingency funding plan. Make recommendations where risks or shortcomings are identified and agree actions with country teams.
  • Analyse banking book interest rate and FX risk positions and assess whether mitigants are available for execution.
  • Provide the ARO capital management team with analytical support as required.
  • Provide fincial modelling support with respect to behavioral modeling and ad hoc modelling requirements. Develop an understanding of modelling systems used by Absa such as SAS, QRM and QlikView. Maintenance of the model assumptions and modelling documentation.
  • Provide standard templates for capital, funding and ALM plans which will ensure an efficient consolidation and reporting process.
  • Assist countries with the implementation and embedment of QRM. Perform funding and interest rate scenario analysis.
  • Assist with the development testing and transfer to production environment of new and current prototype models as required from time to time.
  • Assist with data analysis as required. Become proficient in the data analysis tools used by Absa as required (e.g. Excel, Access, SAS, QlikView).

  • Regulatory reporting: Challenge and review BA610 reporting by countries in respect of liquidity and interest rate risk. Coordinate responses to regulatory and audit queries.
  • Internal reporting: Prepare ARO Treasury and Group Treasury committee papers and present specific topics for noting and / or approval as appropriate.

Business context
  • Develop and understanding of approaches used in the management of treasury risk, both within Absa and also by its peers.
  • Develop an internal network within ARO at different business units and within Treasury.
  • Provide support for meetings with auditors, regulators and other parties as required.
  • Assist with production of presentations on topics related to ARO Treasury risks.
  • Review country economic forecasts, key economic drivers and financial market dynamics in order to start gaining an understanding of the implications of these aspects on treasury risks.

  • B-degree (Accounting/Quantitative Finance)
  • Prior banking experience required (Treasury experience essential)
  • The role requires the suited candidate to be skilled in data manipulation
